🇺🇸 María Lourdes Carlé, is an Argentine tennis player who is having a very good week at the Madrid Open.
In her first match she defeated the winner of the US Open 2021 Emma Raducanu, while in her second match, the world number 17 Veronika Kudermétova. It should be noted that Lourdes comes from playing the qualifying round, which in terms of number of matches, fitness, is even more meritorious.
Now that I put you in context about the present, I will tell you about Lourdes' past and the investments she made.
Tired of struggling in a sport that offers few opportunities and demands exorbitant sacrifices, Carlé emigrated to the USA to study sports management at the University of Georgia. A few months later, she was crowned champion with the student team. Thus, she secured a lifetime scholarship to restart the career of her choice.
Here is one of the investments that Lourdes made that for me was very important for her present. From Argentina it is very difficult to develop a professional career, due to the few tournaments that are played, it is necessary to make long tours outside the country and generally the destination is Europe, to amortize the economic investment with the number of matches (to improve, to have more shooting and of course to add points for the ranking). In addition, being in a country with adverse economic conditions, makes it even more complicated to reach the tennis elite.
From the U.S. she was able to start a college career (which she can develop when she finishes her sports career) and she was assured of a higher volume of competitions. It was key for her because she was able to develop her English, learn to play in a team, be able to compete in nationals and be number 1 in the USA.
In addition, having gone for a year to college, gave her the chance to meet Franco Davin (former coach of Juan MArtín del Potro). In 2019 he decided to return to the professional circuit and with Franco's help he started training at his academy in Miami. From the beginning without a private sponsor, she was supported by her parents and now she finds support in her team, besides supporting her career with what she is earning.
Another big investment was to hire a sports psychologist, a detail that adds a lot when you are entering the professional game.
And back to the present, thanks to these investments in developing and improving her skills to become a professional tennis player, she will play the third round of the Madrid Open and now she will face the top 10 Jelena Ostapenko. In addition, she is currently ranked 82nd in the WTA rankings and is the best in her history. However, with her current performance, she will soon climb several positions.
Undoubtedly, for this 10 year old girl, her dream is coming true...
And that's all for today!
