🎾 ⚽ This week I have been thinking about the different types of fans? how do they live the sport? what emotions do they experience? do they go to the track to watch it live? do they watch it from the comfort of their couch? do they do it alone or accompanied?
Undoubtedly, a sporting event such as a tennis or soccer match involves as many experiences as the people who watch it. For example, I am the typical person who enjoys watching the big tennis tournaments (such as the Grand Slams and the World Cup), as well as the women's championships and the World Cup.
Most of the time I do this from my home, from the comfort of my couch, while having a drink and a snack. I am one of those who follow the actions around the tournament (brand participation, activations, business, communication through the networks, etc.) and then with people related to the same interests, we comment on it all.
There are also times when I attend events in person because it is a different experience. For example, last year I attended the Women's Tennis World Championship, better known as the Billie Jean King Cup, in Seville.
As a spectator and former player, I enjoyed watching a very high level of tennis, seeing top players from different countries, and having the opportunity to meet former players like Conchita Martinez or Billie Jean herself in the corridors.
The atmosphere in a national tournament is incredible. The organization in small groups with the theme of outfits to support their team, walking several kilometers, inventing songs of encouragement (among these, for me, the best was the Spanish audience with the flamenco clapping), the "half-time" shows between the day and night sessions (here Seville took the opportunity to show a little of its culture with flamenco dances, among other things).
The entire event took place in the stadium of La Cartuja, where an infrastructure of three courts on the grass was set up, the center court, court one and a court for the players to warm up. Under the stands of the stadium you could find the "fan" area with mini tennis courts, a serve speed meter, a free make-up area, two cameras where you could leave your signatures and then receive the recording; the inclusion of a hologram in the orange area to take a photo with the Spanish team; a 360 photo in the Andalusia area, or the gift of tattoos in the tent of the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation.
There was also an official merchandising area and another where you could enjoy drinks and food. In my opinion, they could have put more emphasis on this point, with more options and even a menu of dishes and not the typical fast food, since the sessions started around 10 in the morning and often ended around 10 at night. Also, I would have liked a more comfortable sofa area where I could lie down to charge my phone and rest between games.
It was undoubtedly the first edition in Seville and this year they are repeating the venue for the final. We will see if they can respond to the different needs of the people who attend this type of event.
Now, how do you experience tennis and/or football?
And that's all for today 🙌🏼 Thank you very much for coming this far. If you liked it, share it with other people who you think may be interested.
